Fire damaged pub demolition and re-build

When we learnt that a nearby pub had burnt down we couldn’t help but phone up and offer our services!

The Bell pub in Yeovil, Somerset is owned by Greene King and is one of its "Hungry Horse" chain.

Over Christmas 2012 a fire started in the kitchens which led to the whole pub burning out, with most of the roof gone and leaving just some of the walls standing.

The pub borders a busy road, and the first stage of works was to cordon the site off and to make it safe without delay. This involved initial partial demolition of the remains of the building, and a rapid response by both contractor and their suppliers – with YPH providing a range of containers.

These included 20yd roll-on bins for rubble and inert material, 40yd roll-ons for wood, plasterboard and lighter waste, and a range of skip sizes for wood and plasterboard, all changed rapidly when required to keep the demolition work going. Several containers a day were being removed at short notice over a 3 week period during this initial phase.

As worked progressed however it became clear that the planners were not going to allow the whole building to be demolished, but that they wanted it rebuilt as was.

The next phase of the project, once the planning issues were resolved, was the rebuilding of the pub in original style, and this lasted nearly a year during which containers were supplied by YPH throughout.

The pub was re-opened just before Christmas 2013, and looking inside you wouldn’t know that anything had ever happened!
